The 1st National Confederate flag was the national flag of the Confederacy from March 4, 1861, to May 1, 1863.  It was designed by a Prussian artist in Alabama and ws based the design on the flag of Austria. The thirteen star version was the official national flag from November 28, 1861 - May 1, 1863.
